The young pace bowling all-rounder from Visakhapatnam, Nitish Kumar Reddy, is grabbing headlines after making his debut in the ongoing first Test between Australia and India at Perth's Optus Stadium in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Picked over Shardul Thakur, Reddy is poised to become the next big thing in Indian cricket as players of his category are found in the utmost rarity in the country.

Having impressed one and all with his magnificent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, playing for SunRisers Hyderabad under the leadership of Pat Cummins, the all-rounder was awarded the Emerging Player of the Season. 

With a staggering 303 runs from 11 innings with the bat averaging 33.67, Nitish Reddy managed two half-centuries, too. With the ball, he picked up three wickets in his previous edition.

The Andhra cricketer, who has featured in 15 IPL games so far, debuted in IPL during the 2023 season, where he was tried for two games with the ball and ended up going wicketless in both matches without getting any opportunity to bat.

However, things changed dramatically in his second season in 2024, where he featured in 13 games for his side and turned the fortunes in his favour. Afterwards, he was fast-tracked into the Indian side for the T20I series against Bangladesh, where he smashed a free-flowing 74 in the second game.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Reddy was bought by the SRH management for his base price of ₹20 Lakhs and retained him for the 2024 season as well.

After his exploits in the previous season, the SRH management have chosen him again as one of their five retentions for ₹6 Crores before the mega-auctions. The other prominent names on the list include Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Abhishek Sharma.
