Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is renowned for his calm and composed behavior on the cricket field. Famous as Captain Cool, there are hardly any times when the fans have seen the Ranchi-born losing his calm towards any player or towards the opposition. It is often said that not having anger issues is also one of the major reasons behind Dhoni’s success in international cricket.

Dhoni is considered the most successful captain in international cricket with all three ICC trophies to his name, including the 2007 T20I World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy, and 2011 ODI World Cup. He has also steered Chennai Super Kings to the IPL trophy four times in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021.

It was recently in an event that Dhoni revealed his secret behind being calm and not giving into his emotions. The former Indian skipper revealed that all the players who are there on the field never want to make a mistake.

Dhoni describes his thought process

He further added that already millions of fans express their anger over a player who has dropped the catch or caused any other blunder. Thus, instead of adding any more pressure, he finds it's better to look at the reason behind the mistake. Dhoni added that he focuses more on how the player is making amends rather than belittling him for just one error.

Speaking to Livfast, Dhoni said,

“If a player is 100 percent attentive on the ground and he misses a catch despite that, I don’t have a problem. Of course, I also want to see how many catches he took during practice before that.. if he had a problem somewhere and if he is making efforts to get better or not. I used to focus on all these aspects instead of focusing on whether a catch was dropped. Maybe we lost a game because of that, but the effort was always to try to step into their shoes.”

Dhoni added that just like any other human being, the player in question will also feel bad if he underperforms while playing for the country.

The CSK captain defends cricketers

Further, he defended cricketers saying that it is easy to pass comments while watching a game from outside. The CSK skipper believes that ups and downs are all a part of the game and they should not be taken too seriously.

Dhoni asserted that when they (cricketers) represent their country, it’s never a good feeling when one commits a mistake. The ex-India skipper observed that from the outside, it’s always easy to pass comments.

Dhoni added:

“We always try and control our emotions. Sitting on the outside, it’s always easy to say we should have played in a certain way, but it’s not easy. We are representing our country, but the opposition players are also representing their country. They are there to play the game, and a lot of times, there will be ups and downs.”
