On Sunday, England suffered a crushing five-wicket defeat in the second ODI against South Africa in Bloemfontein.

Batting first, England posted a mammoth 342 on the board. However, riding on the sensational knocks from Temba Bavuma and David Miller, the hosts chased the total with five balls to spare.

However, despite England's defeat, young batter Harry Brook became the talk of the town, as he hammered his way through to a flamboyant 75-ball 80 laced with seven fours and four humongous sixes.

Considering Brook's belligerent knock, former England captain Michael Atherton backed the 23-year-old to make it into the squad for the ODI World Cup 2023.

The legendary opener also seemed satisfied with Brook's versatility across all three formats.

Here's what Atherton said

"It's incredibly competitive for top order batting, white-ball batting, but if you see this format as a bridge between Test and T20, he's already shown outstanding form in Tests [and] we know how destructive he can be in T20s,

"He's got the complete game. He's got the defensive technique and all the options on the attack. I'd be very surprised if he's not in India."

Brook has impressed everyone with his nonchalant batting. Considering his experience of playing in the subcontinent, the youngster could play a crucial role for the Englishmen in the showpiece event in India scheduled later this year.
