Nic Maddinson couldn't have started his 2023 on a worse note. The Melbourne Renegades skipper failed with the bat and subsequently on the field as well.

The 31-year-old twisted his knee while fielding and had to be stretched off the field.

The incident occurred on the seventh delivery of the second innings when he injured his knee and was seen withering in excessive pain.

Having run a bit to his right to collect the ball, Maddinson got injured while making a swivel to return the ball. He looked in severe pain and had to be carried away on a vehicle.

It was confirmed after the power-play that Maddinson won't be taking any further part in the game. In his absence, Aaron Finch captained the side for the rest of the game.

As per the reports, the extend of his injury is still unclear but he could be out for the remainder of the BBL season.

Talking about the game, Renegades posted a decent 155 on the board, thanks to a quick-fire fifty by Finch. But the target was achieved by Perth Scorchers with 2 balls to spare.
