Australian batter Matthew Wade seemingly prevented English pacer Mark Wood from completing a catch on purpose. The incident occurred during a high-scoring T20I match between hosts Australia and England earlier this month.

After the match, Wade was severely criticised for his move by the cricketing fraternity. Several fans and former cricketers slammed the Australian wicketkeeper for his obstruction, with some even claiming it as a deliberate act of cheating.

Meanwhile, the batsman has now himself poised down the incident, by saying the move was not intentional from his part.

Matthew Wade clarifies obstructing incident

While speaking on ‘The Unplayable Podcast’ by cricket.com.au, Matthew Wade stated that the incident looked horrible when he saw himself in the replays after the match. He said that it was one of the moments which occurred too fast and what he did was not intentional from his end.

He claimed that he took off for a run with David Warner at the other end, but had to scamper back after he saw the bowler running in. Wade said:

“That looked horrible when I saw it after the game. It was one of those things that just happened so fast.”

“At first, I didn't know if I hit it. It hit me in the head hard, it rung my bell a little bit, (I) went to run down the wicket, Davey (Warner) sent me back, I turned and saw point running in.”
