IPL 2023 | "Massive loss": Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram on Washington Sundar's unavailability

The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been a rough ride, having won just two matches out of seven. Now, with the unavailability of Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar due to an injury, the path has become tougher for the Aiden Markram-led club.

Ahead of SRH's encounter against the Delhi Capitals (DC) this evening in Delhi, Markram admitted that Sundar being ruled out is a massive loss for the side. Sundar, in seven matches this season, scored 60 runs and picked up three wickets before a hamstring injury called curtains on the player's run in the competition.

Interestingly, Sundar's three-wicket came against DC, which was also their last match, where the off-spinner claimed all his wickets in one over.

As quoted by Sportskeeda, the South African confirmed that he is personally not aware of who SRH management will name as Sundar's replacement yet.

Here's what Markram said

“In terms of replacement, I’ve not been involved in any of those, so I’m not too sure what’s happening regarding that. But it’s a massive loss; we all know the quality of Washi and the experience he brings. It’s not very easy to just replace a player like him but you still have to be confident in the players that we have in our squad and give them a fair chance."

The 23-year-old was also ruled out of IPL 2022 due to a finger injury after playing nine matches.

Speaking about his team's performance so far, Markram stated that too much chopping and changing in the batting order has made it tough for players to settle down, and find a balance XI.
