The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) thumped their opponents Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match last evening at Mohali. LSG achieved a record-setting total of 257, thanks to fireworks from Marcus Stoinis, who also had contributions from Kyle Mayers, Ayush Badoni, and Nicholas Pooran.

In reply, Yash Thakur and Naveen-ul-Haq claimed seven wickets between them to halt Punjab to 201, despite Atharva Taide's heroics. Former Australian Brett Lee ended up praising Stoinis for his all-around show and calling him potential captaincy material.

Stoinis scored 72 off 40, which included six fours and five sixes, apart from claiming the key wicket of Shikhar Dhawan, before leaving the field due to a finger injury.

The former Punjab player, speaking to Jio Cinema, called the Australian player a complete package, who is good across all departments of the game.

Here's what Lee said

“He is a captain in the making. He has got a great cricket brain. Look how relaxed he is around the team. He is a freak, that is the best way to describe him. He performs with the bat and the ball, and his throwing arm is very powerful.

He also takes good catches. He is a complete package. But tonight, he showed his class. This was a time when the team went from a low, slow and hard wicket at home to a wicket where the ball was coming nicely on the bat. So, he definitely cashed in tonight,”

Stoinis, 33, has amassed 216 runs in eight matches while picking up five wickets in IPL 2023 so far.

With this win, the KL Rahul-led franchise climbed to second position in the points table and will go up against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday at Lucknow.
