Luke Wright likely to become England's National team selector

In a big development, England's former opening star Luke Wright in all probability, will be announced as the English selector within a week or so. 

The report was published by The Times, which stated that the right-hander will retire from domestic cricket after this season where he represents Sussex and will be assuming the office from next year.

The role was previously held by Ashley Giles but when he resigned, the national coach Chris Silverwood took over the reins from him. Later, Rob Key was also briefly called in to fill the boots of Giles.

What Times report stated

"The former England and Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright will be announced as the ECB’s new men’s national selector this week,

 "The role was abolished by the former director of cricket, Ashley Giles, who handed responsibility for selection to Chris Silverwood, the then-head coach. But Rob Key, who succeeded Giles in April, decided to re-establish the role and advertised the post in September."

Alec Stewart was also in contention too, however, Surrey's director of cricket decided to continue ahead with the role.

Meanwhile, Wright has been an experienced campaigner with 100 international white-ball games for England along with being a part of New Zealand's coaching staff.

If elected, the 37-year-old will play a pivotal role in selecting Three Lions' squad for crucial overseas tours over the year.
