In a surprising move, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have appointed former Pakistan player and coach Saqlain Mushtaq as the national team's consultant ahead of their upcoming five One-Day Internationals (ODI) and five T20I tour later this month. All ODIs will be played in Karachi, while the T20Is will be split between Lahore and Rawalpindi.

As reported by Cricket Pakistan, the PCB is also mulling over the idea of moving an ODI from Karachi to Rawalpindi.

Mushtaq worked as Pakistan's national coach between 2021 and 2022 after Misbah-Ul-Haq stepped down from his post ahead of the ICC World Cup 2021. Under Mushtaq's guidance, Pakistan reached the final of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup last year, losing to eventual winners Sri Lanka and England, respectively.

New Zealand have announced a young squad, led by Tom Latham, for the Pakistan tour. Several stars like Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and Tim Southee will be involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for their respective franchises.

Pakistan will most likely have a new coaching staff, with former coach Mickey Arthur working as team director. They will have the likes of Grant Bradburn back as well.
