Kane Williamson to Open with Shubman Gill in GT's Inaugural IPL 2023 Match?

South African and Royal Challengers Bangalore legend, AB de Villiers, believes that Kane Williamson will play a crucial role in the batting line-up of the Gujarat Titans during the 2023 IPL season. De Villiers praised Williamson, alongside talking about Shubman Gill. 

He further said the Kiwi is an exceptional player who can serve as a stabilizing force for any team's batting order in the IPL. 

Prior to their first match against MS Dhoni's CSK, De Villiers expressed his confidence in Williamson's abilities and referred to him as an indispensable member of the Gujarat Titans squad.

"Kane Williamson is an absolute rockstar player. Very underrated when it comes to T20 cricket. Everyone thinks that he plays slow, run-a-ball and then he ups it. I feel he can be a glue of any batting line-up and still go on and score at 170-180 batting strike rate (sic)."

Williamson had been playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL for the past eight years, but the franchise decided to release him before the 2023 season. As a result, he was acquired by the Gujarat Titans for his base price of INR 2 crores.

"I think Kane can just play his natural game, get himself in and then ultimately take them down. If the rest of the line-up falls around him, he is the perfect guy to take those guys to the 20th over. And that’s going to be his role," De Villiers added.


The RCB legend also complimented Gujarat Titans' opening batter Shubman Gill, describing him as an experienced player who has already proven himself in the IPL. De Villiers believes that the upcoming 2023 edition of the tournament will be an excellent opportunity for Gill to showcase his skills and contribute to the success of the Gujarat Titans team, yet again.

"Shubman Gill is one of those very talented players up the order that can compliment someone like Kane. Shubman has come a very long way with his cricket and is almost like an experienced campaigner now even though he is still young," he concluded.
