In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has seen a plethora of young talent on display that has caught the eyes of millions worldwide. Rajasthan Royals' Yashasvi Jaiswal is one such player, who is ruling the batting charts this season, with 442 runs in 10 matches, while Delhi Capitals' Prithvi Shaw is sitting on the other end of the spectrum, with 44 runs in six matches.

Both players have led India in Under-19 World Cup, with Shaw winning the trophy in 2018, and Jaiswal narrowly missing the coveted title in 2020. Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has given his take on comparisons between Jaiswal and Shaw while responding to Brett Lee's comment.

Lee speaking ahead of Gujarat Titans' clash against Royals last evening, expected the left-handed opener to represent India for 'many years', to which Styris name dropped Shaw.

The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player explained how Shaw is far off the race and needs to go back into the domestic circuit and work hard.

Here's how the conversation transpired between Lee and Styris

“I'm really impressed by his (Yashasvi Jaiswal) temperament, his strike rate is absolutely brilliant. He's got the right attitude. He's going to play for India for many, many years,”

“I know you used Prithvi Shaw's name here. All the competition of young players around… Shaw is so far off the pace, it's not even funny. He needs to work, he needs to go back to domestic cricket and the IPL, and work out on his game. He has to get himself fit and be indispensable,”

DC coach Ricky Ponting has urged Shaw to stand up and perform when the opportunity arises, after being dropped from the XI after a string of low scores.
