In a big move, Indian batter, Ajinkya Rahane is set to join English County Leicestershire for the upcoming Championship season and the One-Day Cup.

The right-handed batter already has experience of playing in the County Championship, having previously played for Hampshire in 2018.

It has been a torrid one year for Rahane, having been dropped from the Indian Test setup. Since then, the 34-year-old has gone back to the Ranji setup and has piled up truckloads of runs for Mumbai.

His arrival will give a big boost to Leicestershire batting lineup as they begin their quest for a domestic title.

Rahane will arrive in England after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, and the game against Gloucestershire on June 11 is touted to be his debut game.

Despite being out of the Indian Test setup, Rahane has a stellar first-class record, scoring 12,865 runs, at an average of 47.12.

Moreover, the Mumbai batter has added 6,317 runs in List-A cricket, with an average of 40. Despite his technical excellence, Rahane has a mediocre record in England. He has played 15 Test matches, and has piled on 307 runs, at an average of 23.61.

Apart from Rahane, Leicestershire have also added South Africa's Wiaan Mulder, Afghanistan's Naveen-ul-Haq to their ranks.
