The Asia Cup 2022 encounter of Afghanistan and India in Dubai remained memorable for Virat Kohli but not for Rashid Khan. While Kohli lit up the ground with his long-awaited century, Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid failed to take a single wicket.

India batted first and piled on a massive total of 212/2. The captain KL Rahul gave a solid beginning with a 41-ball 62, but it was Virat Kohli who took the center stage.

The former captain finally ended his century drought of 3 years with an unbeaten 122 off 61 balls, packed with 12 fours and 6 sixes. It was his first T20I hundred, and it came at a strike rate of 200.

Rashid Khan Appeared Clueless Vs India’s Assault

All eyes were on Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s most dangerous bowler, who is known for troubling the best batters in the world. But on this day, Kohli and Rahul played him with ease.

Rashid bowled his full quota of four overs, conceding 33 runs without a wicket. For a bowler of his reputation, this was a rare off-day. The inability to break India’s momentum allowed Kohli to dominate freely and set up a mammoth score.

In the chase, Afghanistan collapsed under pressure. Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced a dream spell, taking 5 wickets for just 4 runs, while Arshdeep Singh, Ashwin, and Hooda chipped in.

Afghanistan could manage only 111/8, losing the game by a huge margin of 101 runs. The game served as a sobering reminder to Rashid Khan that even the best bowlers can falter against hitters who are at the top of their game. Kohli's brilliant hundred was a stark contrast to his wicketless performance.

For Virat Kohli, the inning was a much-needed redemption and relief as he snapped out of his 3-year-long century drought to slam his 71st international hundred.
