Opener KL Rahul came out in defence of India's bowling attack following yet another underwhelming performance- especially at the death- in a high-scoring 2nd T20I in Guwahati at the post-match presentation, where he was adjudged the 'Player of the Match'.

Indian bowlers once again took a hammering after a good outing in helpful conditions of Thiruvananthapuram as they ended up conceding 221 while defending the total of 237.

India's death bowling has been a major issue in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah in recent times, and while, Arshdeep Singh has done brilliantly so far, he also took a hammering from a rampaging David Miller on Sunday night.

The spin duo of Axar Patel and R Ashwin also had a very tough night at the office as they failed to make any impact during the middle-overs.

Not only Indian bowlers, but bowlers in general, had a night to forget in Guwahati as 90+% humidity and excessive dew made it impossible to grip the ball.

Rahul echoed the same in the post-match presentation as he defended the under-fire bowling-unit.

Here's what KL Rahul said:

"In the last game they restricted the team to 106 and today they went for runs. You have to take into consideration the conditions also, the pitch, it was humid, and there was dew, so it was hard for the bowlers to grip the ball. And when the opposition is chasing 240, you know batters are gonna come hard, try and smash every ball. It becomes a little difficult for the bowlers to execute their plans."

Deepak Chahar was exceptional amid the doom and gloom

Amid the carnage, right-arm seamer Deepak Chahar shone like a bright light as he bowled with remarkable control and discipline in both powerplay and also at the death.

Chahar delivered a maiden in the powerplay, and in addition to this, he bowled a brilliant 17th over, where he nailed yorkers at will.

He may not have taken a single wicket, but his spell of 0-24 (4) certainly proved to be the difference between the two teams.
