'I'll Blood Him...' Kevin Pietersen Calls For Yashasvi Jaiswal's inclusion In The 2023 World Cup Squad

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has urged the Indian selectors to 'blood in' dynamic young opener in the squad for the upcoming 2023 World Cup.

Shubman Gill is currently the incumbent in the ODI set-up alongside skipper Rohit Sharma and the stylish Punjab cricketer has earned the spot through sheer volume of runs, which also includes a brilliant double hundred against New Zealand earlier this year.

As of now, Ishan Kishan is the 3rd opener in the Indian ODI set-up, but Jaiswal, via his strong List-A record and his current IPL heist is a strong contender to leapfrog him.

Jaiswal has set the IPL on fire this summer courtesy of his audacious, and dynamic strokeplay against both pace and spin.

In 13 innings, the Mumbai southpaw has hammered 575 runs @ 47.92/166.18, which includes 4 50s and 1 hundred.

And KP is mighty impressed. So much so that he went as far as advocating a World Cup spot for the RR opener in his blog for Betway.

Here's what Pietersen said:

We’re seeing the future of the India top order in Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. I would really strongly look at Jaiswal for the 50-over World Cup. I'd blood him and let him go. I think 50 overs is going to be a thing of the past in the not-too-distant future, but I’d get him into the squad straight away."

That said, Gill too has been amazing at this years' IPL- 576 runs at the average of 48 with a brilliant strike rate of 146.19 - and given his ODI record is superb too, it will take a humongous feat from Jaiswal and a significant drop in Gill's form for the former to leapfrog the right-handed opener.
