Australia's stand-in skipper, Steve Smith has showered praise on Nathan Lyon for his stellar performance against West Indies in the 2nd Test at Adelaide.

Lyon finished as the leading wicket-taker in the series, with 12 wickets in two matches, and it also included a five-wicket haul in the first Test.

In the Pink-Ball Test at Adelaide, Lyon took the wicket of Joshua Da Silva in the first innings with a ripper and Smith was particularly impressed with that dismissal.

Smith lauds Lyon

"The way he's bowling at the moment, he's getting a lovely shape and he's changing a few things up. He got Da Silva lbw with a side spinning ball, which is one that he's been working on," Smith stated.

"It hit the seam and spun quite sharply, and doesn't bounce quite as much, which is why it hit the stumps. But he's still learning and getting better and that's what you want from someone who has played 100 Test matches, and it sets the standards for everyone," Smith added.

Australia's next assignment will be a 3-match Test series against the visiting South Africa side. Australia will hope that Lyon continues his fine form against the Proteas.
