One of India's most promising fast bowlers, Umran Malik, has been praised by New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. Williamson backed Malik in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad since the 2021 edition.

Malik's sensational IPL 2022 last year saw the paceman claim 22 wickets in 14 matches, forcing the selectors to select the Jammu-born for Team India. Malik, 22, despite his sheer pace, failed to keep his economy under check, seeing him drop from the national side.

Williamson, responding to a News18 question, revealed that he believes Malik is an exceptional talent and expects big things from the 150+ kph bowler for India in the future.

"Umran is a super exciting talent. Spending time with him last year at the IPL and see his raw pace was a real asset to the team. To see him in the international scene now has been an amazing rise for him.

And I think when you’ve got that ability to bowl 150 mark as a fast bowler, it’s very exciting. I think by being in the squad, clearly there is high hopes that he will have an involvement with Indian cricket for a long time."

Malik made his 20-overs debut for India in June 2022 and played three games before being dropped ahead the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

The SRH bowler will be in action during India's white-ball tour of New Zealand comprising of three ODIs and as many T20Is.
