Australia's explosive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is looking set for a return back onto the field after being selected in Victoria's 13-member squad for their upcoming Sheffield Shield 2022-23 encounter.

Maxwell has been out of cricket since November 2022 after suffering a freak leg injury, which could have ended his career. The 34-year-old will need to pass one more fitness test and most likely be seen playing his first First-Class match since 2019.

Maxwell will take the field for Fitzroy-Doncaster in Victorian Premier Cricket on Saturday to prove his match fitness.

Cricket Victoria's head of male cricket David Hussey welcomed Maxwell back into the side ahead of their crucial tie against South Australia, starting Monday.

Victoria are placed second in the points table with two wins, two losses, and three draws.

Here's what Hussey said

"To bring a player of Glenn's calibre into the squad is exciting, he has a fantastic record in Shield cricket and it's a shame he hasn't been able to play more of it,"

In the 202 FC matches, the Melbourne-born has scored 5,415 runs and slammed five tons and 33 fifties.

A good Shield outing will be crucial for Maxwell, who will hope to find a place in Australia's ODI squad for the Indian tour due next month.
