The ongoing first Test between Zimbabwe and West Indies witnessed Gary Ballance take the centre stage for his adopted side and slam a determined Test hundred on Day 4 at Bulawayo.

Ballance, who played for England earlier, notched up his fifth Test century and dug his team out of a hole.

The left-handed batter, who remained unbeaten on 137*, said he was under pressure, but getting his eyes in the middle helped him.

As per India Today, the former England player also praised the West Indies bowlers, who made scoring tough.

Here's what Ballance said

"Didn't know that. That's a cool stat and it is nice to contribute. Bit of extra pressure, but when I spent some time in the middle, I felt confident. All different challenges. Joseph has got some extra pace, so that is difficult. The seamers were bowling wicket to wicket, so it was hard to score."

The 33-year-old, with this hundred, became the second batter after Kepler Wessels to score a Test hundred for two different nations.

Interestingly, Ballance's 137* is the highest Test score on debut for Zimbabwe, bettering Dave Houghton's 121.

Heading into Day 5, West Indies hold an 89-run lead after Zimbabwe declared their first innings at 379 for 9 in response to the visitors' 447 for 6.
