The year 2022 has been all about Surya Kumar Yadav. The swashbuckling middle-order batter for India has established himself as one of the best in T20 cricket, ranked No.1 in the ICC T20 Rankings.

However, Yadav's T20I statistics have not been replicated in One-Day Internationals. The 31-year-old managed just 44 runs in the recently concluded ODI series in New Zealand, where his approach was questioned. In a rain-truncated second ODI, Yadav blitzed to a 25-ball 34, showcasing his ability to switch into T20 mode.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri, an admirer of SKY's batting, has cautioned the batter to make minor adjustments while playing 50-overs cricket.

Speaking to Prime Video, Shastri explained that the Mumbai Indian stalwart has to understand the need to stay in the middle for more extended periods in a 50-overs match, and then look to launch after assessing the conditions.

"That can happen. But what he can learn is that this is two-and-a-half time the size of a T20 game. He has got that many more balls to play. He can wait that bit longer. His USP is total devastation towards the end of the innings.

He has got ample time to reach 30-40 before that with a lot more number of balls. So, in his case, it's about giving himself that extra bit of time. That impact quality that is needed can wait a little bit because this game is a little bit longer,"

Yadav has been rested from India's upcoming Bangladesh tour, to keep his workload under check.
