Former Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard has opined that no matter where MS Dhoni plays in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, the 4-time IPL winner will be treated to raucous support from the fans.
Former champions Mumbai Indians will lock horns with arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings on Saturday evening, and while the entire Wankhede Stadium is likely to be painted in blue colors of MI, Pollard believes that it won't hinder the support of the home fans for Dhoni.
Pollard likened the amount of love and adulation Dhoni receives these days with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who used to attract similar emotions during the final years of his IPL career.
Here's what Kieron Pollard told ESPNCricinfo:
“Fortunately or unfortunately, when he plays this season, everywhere he goes, he's going to have a home crowd and a home support, because of what he has done. We have felt that years ago when we had our own icon, Sachin Tendulkar. No matter where we went throughout India, we had that support,” Pollard said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
In what is likely to be his final season, MS Dhoni has received massive support from fans irrespective of where CSK have played.
While his home venue- the Chepauk- was packed to the rafters for Thala's homecoming last week, even the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad saw fans reverberate the venue with 'Dhoni' chants even though most of them with Gujarat Titans supporters.
Dhoni rolled back the clock with two brilliant sixes off Mark Wood in his previous outing, something his fans will hope is the case in Wankhede on Saturday night.
