England white-ball head coach Matthew Mott is eager to promote Ben Stokes up the batting order at the upcoming T20I World Cup in Australia.  In agreement with captain Jos Buttler, Matthew Mott believes that Ben Stokes deserves a clear role in the batting lineup for the marquee event.

Ben Stokes has not played much competitive T20 cricket in the past 20 months, with his last England outing coming against India in March 2021. After announcing his retirement from ODI Cricket, England's red-ball captain is raring to make a comeback to the shortest format of the game this month. The talismanic all-rounder was not a part of the travelling squad to Pakistan for the recently concluded seven-game T20I series.

"One of the things that's been said for a while is that he hasn't had a clear role," said Mott.

"And Jos in particular is clear that he's a top-four player. Those conditions in Australia will suit the way he plays. You always have a bit of flexibility with the batting but he will be expected to be higher in the innings," he added.

Ben Stokes has had an eventful summer as England's red-ball captain, which saw his side claim two series wins, and a series levelling win against India back in July. The 31-year-old was also named as the Player of the Series in the three-match Test series against South Africa.

England are scheduled to play a three match T20I series against Australia as the World Cup draws closer. Ben Stokes, Chris Jordan and Liam Livingstone are expected to join the English camp 'Down Under' in the following days. England kickstart their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on 22nd October in Perth.
