The young dynamic big-hitting African prodigy Dewald Brevis has taken the world by storm after his sensational hitting in T20 cricket. The right-hander first rose to prominence after the 2022 U-19 World Cup where he earned the nickname of "Baby AB", as his style of play resembled his idol AB de Villiers's style.

He was later acquired by Mumbai Indians as he got his first IPL gig during the last edition of the cash-rich extravaganza where he thumped some massive blows impressing one and all. However, now, his performance has been tremendous in the ongoing SA2O league as well citing that he is knocking hard on the door of selectors for his international call-up.

With an overhaul on the cards in the South African camp as new coaches Shukri Conrad and Rob Walter have taken charge, his debut could be happening anytime soon. The same was echoed by South Africa's Director Cricket, Enoch Nkwe who spoke in length about fast-tracking Brevis in the national setup citing the example of Australian opener David Warner.

"There's a lot of noise around Brevis. We know how good he is. He has shown it in SA20, he has played some good cricket and he has been pretty consistent in T20 cricket.

"In terms of youngsters, the reality moving forward, we might have to do a David-Warner type of approach where there is going to be the transition phase from under-19 cricket into professional cricket through T20 and then ODI and then Test cricket. That's something we foresee happening in the future.

"We understand someone like Brevis has a lot of cricket to play and now we have to see how we get him to that longer format? We know that he can offer a lot to South African cricket."

It is worth mentioning that Warner played his first international game after having just 20 white-ball caps in domestic cricket along with just 11 first-class matches before his Test call-up.
