Australian captain Aaron Finch recently said that David Warner is unsure of playing the T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up fixture against India. The match is slated to be held at The Gabba on October 17.

Warner sustained a neck injury during the second T20I against England in Canberra last week. The setback prompted the cricketer to miss out Australia’s subsequent match against the visitors at the same venue.

During a press conference in Melbourne, the Australian skipper said David Warner might miss out on the warm-up fixture against India. However, Finch expressed his confidence that the left-hander will be fit in time for Australia’s opening T20 World Cup match against New Zealand. He said:

“I think he (David Warner) will definitely be right for New Zealand, but I am not sure about the warm-up game against India. He was OK the day after he hit his head and then the following day his neck got really sore and stiff.”

Warner was one of the integral members of Australia’s victorious campaign in last year’s T20 World Cup in UAE. The opening batter listed 289 runs from seven matches, and played match-winning knocks in the semi-final and final of the tournament.

Finch said that the team management will only add the opener in the playing XI if he is fully fit for playing. The captain said:

“If he is fit, he will play, but if he is still a little bit sore we will err on the side of caution.”
