Azhar Ali to play for County cricket for Worcestershire post-international retirement

Former Pakistan international Azhar Ali is committed to playing County Cricket after announcing his retirement last month. 

Ali signed a one-year deal with Worcestershire County Cricket Club (WCCC) for the upcoming 2023 season, after having a magnificent first season for them last year.

Ali, playing for Worcestershire last year in County cricket, scored 656 runs in the red-ball competition while managing 185 runs in the Royal London Cup 2022, including a knock of 130 against Northamptonshire.  

Before stint with Worcestershire, Ali played for Somerset as well.

The former Pakistan captain played 97 Tests and 53 One-Day Internationals, accumulating 8,987 runs combined, with 22 hundred and 47 fifties. 

Ali, who is currently playing club cricket in Lahore, spoke to GEO News and talked about his plans going forward including coaching. 


Here's what Ali said

"I enjoy playing cricket, I will go and play for Worcestershire this year and try to give my best. At this moment, I have just retired from Test cricket and enjoying my time. I will see this option (coaching) later on."

The Pakistan batting great also expressed his excitement for the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2023, where he could be seen doing commentary.
