The Australian cricket team could miss the services of veteran opener David Warner in the third and final T20I against England today. The hosts trail the three-match series 0-2 and will look to play for pride in Canberra.

According to The Australian, writer Peter Lalor, Warner suffered a whiplash injury while fielding in the second T20I on Wednesday. The team management had hoped that Warner would recover in time, but are not willing to take a risk with the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 starting in a week's time.

Warner so far has scored 77 runs in the series, including a 73 in the first T20I.

"They would’ve hoped I felt to have their full team tonight. My mail is I can reveal exclusively that Warner is unlikely to play. He kind of got whiplash in a fielding incident in the previous game.

My mail is he’s not going great, they can always get around on the field if they had to, but I’m not sure they’ll take that risk," SEN 1170 quoted Lalor

Steve Smith might be in line to open the innings in the absence of Warner.

Australia meets India in their first warm-up on Monday, before taking on neighbours New Zealand in their T20 World Cup 2022 opener next week.
