England’s interim skipper Amy Jones has joined the Sydney Thunder squad ahead of the Women’s Big Bash League 2022-23 season. The cricketer will be making her return to the tournament after a season’s gap, having previously represented the Sydney Sixers between 2017 and 2018 and Perth Scorchers in the subsequent three editions.

Star Englishwoman joins Thunder

Amy Jones was recently promoted to England’s skipper role for the home series against India. The 29-year-old has stated that she is looking forward to play for the Thunder in WBBL, after skipping a year of the tournament in its previous season.

Jones added that she is hopeful of contributing in some wins for the Thunder and is excited to join Australian great Rachael Haynes in the team. Upon the signing, the wicketkeeper-batter said:

“I’ve had a year or two out of the league, so it will be great to be a part of the competition again. I look forward to having fun out there - and hopefully contributing to some wins for Sydney Thunder.

“I played alongside Rachael at Loughborough Lightning in 2018, and she was an excellent leader.”

Jones claimed that she has heard high praises about the club from her English teammates Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont.
