England pacer Tom Curran has suffered a relapse of his back injury and will likely miss the start of the upcoming T20 Blast 2023 for Surrey. Curran pulled out of the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) after complaints of back pain, which revealed a lower back fracture upon scans.

This is the second time in a row that the fast bowler has suffered the same injury in his lumbar spine, which forced Curran to announce an indefinite break from red-ball cricket last February.

In a statement, the Surrey County Cricket Club stated the extent of Curran's injury but did not provide a stipulated timeline for his return to active action.

Here's what Surrey said

"Tom Curran returned early from the Pakistan Super League and scans have shown he has suffered a stress fracture of the lumbar spine. Tom will be out for a period of time whilst he recovers and undergoes rehabilitation at Surrey."

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Curran could also miss out on featuring in the T20 Blast competition altogether.

The 28-year-old had been retained by the Oval Invincibles for the upcoming The Hundred 2023 tournament as well.

Curran recently represented Islamabad United in the PSL 2023.

Overall, the Cape Town-born has appeared in two Tests, 28 ODIs, and 30 T20Is for England since 2017.
