Rohit Sharma on Wednesday (December 7) became the first Indian to reach the milestone of 500 sixes in the international circuit. He achieved this feat in an ODI fixture against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

Rohit now has 502 maximums to his name and is only behind Chris Gayle's 553 sixes across all three formats.

Rohit went off the field after the second over of Bangladesh's innings, after he injured his thumb during a catching attempt. Along with dropping the catch, the Indian skipper injured his thumb and was sent to the hospital.

However, to everyone's surprise, the 35-year-old arrived at the crease at No.9, with India needing 65 runs off 44 balls in a chase of 272. After Deepak Chahar was dismissed, Rohit took the center stage.

The 35-year-old gave wings to India's hopes by smacking two sixes off Ebadot Hossain's in the 46th over. After Mohammed Siraj conceded a maiden over against Mustafizur Rahman, India needed 40 runs off the final two overs.

Rohit clubbed two sixes in the penultimate over, off Mahmudullah, while garnering runs in the remaining balls as well. With 20 needed of 6, Rohit kept the team in the hunt by smoking two fours and a six.

However, Rahman kept his calm to dart a perfect yorker to help Bangladesh seal the fixture and an ODI series win as well. Rohit remained unbeaten on 51 off 28 balls, with five sixes and three fours.

Earlier, Mehidy Hasan (100*) and Mahmudullah (77) helped Bangladesh to post a total of 271 on the board.
