Suryakumar Yadav struck a hasty 46 in the high-scoring T20I against Australia at Mohali. Even though India lost the contest in the final over, Yadav himself made some personal gains out of his innings, as per the latest ICC rankings.

The cricketer has now jumped past Pakistan captain Babar Azam following the latter’s dry run with the bat.

Yadav, Pandya make merry in ICC T20 rankings

Yadav has jumped a rung to be ranked number three in the latest ICC rankings for T20I batsmen. The cricketer swapped places with Babar Azam, who has now slipped to number four in the elite charts.

The Pakistan skipper himself scored a sluggish 31 against England in their series-opener at Karachi. Moreover, the right-hander also yielded just 68 runs across six innings of the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022. His prevailing dry run with the bat demoted him in the standings, which is now helmed by his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan at the top.

India’s Hardik Pandya also made changes in the rankings, albeit in the all-rounders department. The star cricketer powered India’s total to 208-6 through his 30-ball 71* against Australia. His knock elevated him past Glenn Maxwell and Namibia’s J.J. Smit as he is currently the fifth best T20I all-rounder in the world.

Both Yadav and Pandya will get more opportunities to climb up the ladder this series as India will now face Australia in the second T20I on September 23. The two cricketers are also part of the 15-player ‘Men in Blue’ squad for next month’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
