The former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori believes Ravichandran Ashwin can be a boon to the Indian side in the T20I World Cup 2022 due to his adaptability and experience of playing in Australia.

Ashwin, who was primarily a red-ball specialist for India, recently has become a permanent member of the T20I team as well.

The 35-year-old returned to the white-ball setup after picking 12 wickets in the IPL 2022 at an economy of 7.34, which helped Rajasthan Royals to reach the finals.

Since then, Ashwin has done well in his limited appearances for Men in Blue during the West Indies series and the Asia Cup. Furthermore, he has been named in the T20I World Cup 2022 squad as well.

The injury concern of Ravindra Jadeja was also a decisive factor for the selectors while choosing Ashwin, due to his usefulness with the bat.

In this regard, Vettori thinks Ashwin's inclusion in the World Cup squad will give the team a good balance in the absence of Jadeja.

Here is what Vettori said:

"He's one of those guys who's very adaptable, he understands what he needs to do in all situations. I think if he's picked he will know how to perform. He's been to Australia on a number of occasions."

In the end, the 43-year-old heaped praise on the young spinners Bishnoi and Rahul Chahar, who have been exceptional in the IPL in the last couple of years.

"Ravi Bishnoi, Rahul Chahar coming through as well on the back of the IPL so when they play for India in pressure situations they are ready to succeed."
