Sensational Parnell guides Northern Superchargers to a 16-run win over Southern Brave

A sensational spell of bowling from left-arm seamer Wayne Parnell (4-16 in 20 deliveries) helped the Northern Superchargers end their campaign on a high as they notched up a 16-run win over the Southern Brave at Headingley on Wednesday.

Defending 135, the Superchargers got off to a perfect start thanks to Parnell, who dismissed Paul Stirling for a 5-ball 5.

This was after Quinton de Kock got run out for a 6-ball 8. The Southern Brave could never recover from the dual bodyblows and went on to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Parnell dismissed the highest run-scorer of Southern Brave innings in the form of Rehan Ahmed (33 off 29) and he went on to add two more to his tally to end with enviable figures.

James Fuller (25 off 23) showed some resistance at the backend but it proved to be inadequate as SOU were eventually fell short by 16 runs.

Earlier, the Northern Superchargers managed 135/8 in 100 deliveries on what was a tricky Leeds surface.

They lost skipper Faf du Plessis cheaply (7 off 5) but handy knocks from Adam Lyth (20 off 20), David Willey (22 off 18) and Harry Brook (29 off 17) followed by decent cameos lower down the order by the likes of Parnell ensured they got to a match-winning total.

Rehan Ahmed (2-20 in 20) and James Fuller (2-20 in 20) were the pick of the bowlers for the Southern Brave.
