Trent Rockets batter Mignon du Preez has praised the home crowd for thronging the stadium to full capacity during their commanding victory against Welsh Fire on Monday (August 29) at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Batting first, Fire posted a total of 100 on the board, with Nicola Carey (27) and Sarah Bryce (23) as the top contributors. The experienced campaigners Katherine Brunt and Nat Sciver scalped two wickets each for Rockets.

Afterwards, Elyse Villani (55*) and Preez (32*) guided the hosts to chase down the total, with 18 balls to spare.

Rockets’ women's triumph was witnessed by 10, 286 spectators, who went euphoric after Preez finished the game with a boundary.

“To see how many people have come out to support women’s cricket is fantastic,” said du Preez.

“We don’t always get these crowds back home even when we play international cricket.

“The energy around everything has been amazing, and the way the women’s game has been promoted has been fantastic. The double headers just seem to be working and it is such a fantastic atmosphere.

Rockets secured their third victory in six league games of the ongoing Women's Hundred to climb to the third spot in the points table. It was also their last fixture in the league stage, and will have to depend upon other results to go in their favour.

With a nearer net run-rate, Birmingham Phoenix have a solid chance of qualifying for the playoffs, if they secure a big victory against London Spirit on Tuesday (August 30).
