Shubman Gill is all over the news due to his blistering knock of 130 runs against Zimbabwe. The opening batter has shown unreal consistency in recent times. Gill started his exploits in the One Day Internationals last month against West Indies.

The absence of skipper Rohit Sharma provided an opportunity for the youngster to make a comeback to the team. Gill made the most of the opportunity as he ended the tour as the top run-scorer. In three games, the 22-year-old smacked 205 runs at a stunning average of 102.50.

Harbhajan lauds Gill for his good shot selection

The opening batter exhibited the same class during the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. He is again the leading run-scorer for the Men in Blue with 245 runs from three innings. The youngster also managed to get his maiden international hundred on Monday.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh seemed highly impressed with the young rookie. Lauding Gill’s batting skills, Harbhajan placed him in the category of batters like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul.

In an interview with the Times of India, Harbhajan said,

"He's a sorted batsman, who has a sound technique, and very good shot selection. In terms of quality of batsmanship, I would bracket him with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul in the current Indian team. You love to watch them bat."

Harbhajan draws similarities between Gill and Tendulkar

Smacking a hundred in the third One Day International helped Gill enter his name in the record books. He now holds the record of the highest individual score against Zimbabwe in the 50-over format. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar was the one leading the charts with a knock of 127*.

As Gill leapfrogged Tendulkar, Harbhajan noticed a similarity between the two batters. The spinner believes that the Punjab-born is hungry for success. Just like Tendulkar, Gill is always looking to contribute positively to the team’s success.

Harbhajan concluded,

"The good thing about him is that he's hungry for success. Few batsmen these days feel bad when they're not scoring runs. He's one of those characters. He feels he is letting the team down when he's in poor form. It's a quality one must have. It's a quality that Tendulkar too had."
