Tim David in action for Hobart Hurricanes [Source: @fantasyfamily11/X.Com]
In the 7th match of the Big Bash League 2024, Hobart Hurricanes collided with the Perth Scorchers and hopes were high for a riveting battle between the two sides. Interestingly, the contest lived up to its expectations as the Hurricanes won a nail- biting contest.
Despite all the positivity surrounding the win, there was one aspect which pinched everyone and that was the exclusion of Tim David. The newest RCB recruit and the Hurricanes star didn't came out to bat against the Scorchers as the eyebrows were raised quickly.
Perth Scorchers batted first and posted 155/6, courtesy of a quick-fire 49 from their star batter, Josh Inglis. The target looked relatively easy to chase down as Hurricanes opener, Mitchell Owen looked in some mood as he completed a brilliant hundred. However, despite his brilliant knock, it wasn't until the last over that the Hurricanes snatched the win.
Why Tim David wasn't used by the Hurricanes?
After the early loss of Caleb Jewell, it was expected that Ben McDermott will come into bat at number 3, followed by Tim David, however, Hurricanes sprung a surprise as they sent in Shai Hope at 3.
The decision back-fired to some extend as the West Indian batter played a slow and scratchy knock and was dismissed for a 35-ball 38 which increased the required run-rate. Despite it going up, the Hurricanes still decided to promote McDermott at 4, and the reason for this could be Tim David's woeful form.
In his last 10 T20 innings, David hasn't done anything significant and in the last BBL match, he was dismissed for a two-ball duck. Hence, they decided not to send an out of form player when the required rate is already climbing high.
