Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) decided to drop Lockie Ferguson in Match 45 of IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans, taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Faf du Plessis-led side decided to bring in Glenn Maxwell, who took an indifinite break in the middle of the ongoing edition.
Du Plessis confirmed Maxwell’s return after winning the toss. The South African international explained why the hard-hitting all-rounder was here as well.
"Maxwell comes back in as it's a day game and he can counter GT's spin, which is their strong suit," du Plessis said.
Having won only twice in nine matches, RCB are placed at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table. This is a must-win fixture for the Virat Kohli-starred side, who have to register victories after victories to stay in the playoff contentions.
"I think it is pretty much a 50-50 split. The wicket will get a bit better as the game progresses. We would like to chase. Yeah, we are bowling first," du Plessis added. "We didn't have a great start. Obviously, the bowling wasn't up to the mark. The nature of this game changed. But in the last couple of games, our bowling attack has stepped up. The batters are always doing their job. Recently, the game we lost against SRH was a high-scoring game. The batters did exceptionally well get to closer."
GT, meanwhile, are placed seventh on the points table, with four victories and five losses.
