On Wednesday, April 2, Gujarat Titans locked horns against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in match 14 of IPL 2025 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The visitors won the toss and opted to field first.

RCB named an unchanged XI, but Gujarat Titans, despite a win in their previous match, were forced to make a few changes that got the internet talking. It is worth noting that, in a rare instance in IPL, Gujarat named just 2 overseas players in the line-up. Meanwhile, this article will look at why GT named just 2 foreign stars.

Why Have Gujarat Titans Named Just 2 Overseas Players In Playing XI?

Gujarat won the toss and they opted to field first. Further, in the bowling unit they dealt a heavy blow in the form of Kagiso Rabada and had to make a forced change in their line-up. Now with Rabada missing out because of personal reasons, GT decided to replace him with an Indian option, which is why they were left with three overseas options.

Now since GT were bowling first, they left out Sherfane Rutherford and Glenn Phillips out, but added them to the impact subs list. Thus, when Gujarat returns to bat in the second innings, they are most likely to bring in Rutherford of Phillips in.

Thus, in a way, it can be said that they are playing with three overseas stars , but because of impact player rule, their line-up reflects just two overseas stars.

What Are The Minimum Overseas Players Named In A Line-Up In IPL History?

It is worth noting that Punjab Kings holds the record for fielding just one overseas player in the line-up, when they fielded just a single overseas player during its IPL 2024 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad.
