In a dramatic turn of events, rain has interrupted the high-voltage clash between Australia and Afghanistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. After Afghanistan posted a challenging total of 273 runs, Australia raced to 109 for one in 12.5 overs before rain played spoilsport in the match. 

Who Will Win If AUS vs AFG Gets Abandoned?

As rain has stopped the proceedings in Lahore, fans have become curious to know the potential winner if the match gets called off. It's worth mentioning that a 20-over innings is mandatory to implement the Duckworth-Lewis and Stern (DLS) method in rain-affected ODI matches. 

As Australia have played only 12.5 overs, DLS method can't be applied to determine the winner of this match. Therefore, if the game gets called off, both teams will get one point each.

Semifinal Qualification Scenario If AUS vs AFG Gets Called Off

Currently, Afghanistan are placed third in the group-B standings with two points. On the other hand, Australia claim the second position with three points. So, if the ongoing match gets abandoned, Afghanistan and Australia will finish the group-stage with three and four points, respectively. 

In such a scenario, Australia will confirm their semifinal qualification, as neither Afghanistan nor England can surpass their tally. Meanwhile, Afghanistan's semifinal hopes will come down to the result of England vs South Africa clash, which will be played tomorrow. If South Africa lose the game by a huge margin, the team with a superior Net Run Rate will enter the semifinal.
