Virat Kohli smeared 56 in his comeback match against Australia in a high-scoring run-chase at Rajkot. The cricketer formed a 70-run stand with skipper and fellow comeback veteran Rohit Sharma, and belted five boundaries and a six in his 61-ball effort.

Chasing a colossal 353-run target, a well-set Kohli even lofted Australian speedster Mitchell Starc for a huge six towards long-off in the 20th over of the innings.

Virat Kohli, who opted himself out of the playing XI from the first two ODIs of the series, made a return to the side for the dead-rubber in Rajkot in a bid to gain some momentum ahead of the upcoming 2023 World Cup.

The right-hander arrived to the middle following the dismissal of experimental opener Washington Sundar at 74-1 in 10.5 overs. Kohli joined a charged-up Rohit Sharma, and ensured runs kept flowing from both ends of the crease.

When the batting legend reached a near run-a-ball 32 in the team’s 20th over, he stepped out to Mitchell Starc and lofted him over long-off for a huge six.

Virat Kohli eventually perished at 56 to become part-timer Glenn Maxwell’s third victim of the evening.

His dismissal coincided with the arrival of KL Rahul, who joined Shreyas Iyer at the crease as the two aim to overcome Australia’s daunting 352-run challenge.

The match marks the final outing for both sides prior to their imminent face-off in Chennai at the upcoming 2023 World Cup.
