Hardik Pandya gave Indian cricket fans much to celebrate during the concluding stages of India’s thrilling semifinal showdown against Australia at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The dashing all-rounder muscled three huge sixes at the Dubai International Stadium during his sizzling 28-run cameo in the run-chase.
One of those huge sixes even prompted ‘Delhi Boys’ Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir to fervently celebrate as India inched closer to a spot in the finals.
Virat Kohli and Gambhir celebrate Pandya’s six-fest
Team India won the first semifinal of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against Australia by four wickets in the penultimate over of the match. After Virat Kohli nurtured a major part of the Indian run-chase through his top-scoring act of 84 runs from 98 balls, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya shrugged off the remaining runs following his dismissal in the 43rd over.
Pandya, in particular, blasted three huge sixes during his swift 28-run knock to take India closer to Australia’s 264-run total. One of those sixes even prompted Virat Kohli to celebrate the occasion in the team balcony by roaring at head coach and former national teammate Gautam Gambhir.
Apart from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul also composed a fighting 42* from 34 balls with two boundaries and two huge sixes, including one to seal the chase in the penultimate over off Australian spinner Glenn Maxwell.
Earlier in the match, Australia batted first and listed 264, with interim captain Steve Smith and Alex Carey both cracking half-centuries. For India, senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami picked up figures of 3-48 while spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with two wickets apiece.
