For the first Test between India and Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Nitish Reddy and Harshit Rana have been handed their debut caps. It is worth noting that Reddy is making his Test debut as he has already featured for India in white-ball cricket.
Nonetheless, it is a special occasion for both cricketers, and it certainly gets bigger when Indian maestro Virat Kohli presents the India cap to you before the start of the match.
During the team huddle, Virat gave the prestigious cap to Nitish Reddy. It is worth noting that Reddy rose to fame after his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. He made his white-ball debut this year and impressed the critics. Notably, Reddy has idolised Kohli growing up and it was a special moment for him after receiving India cap from Virat.
“When I was 13-14 years old, I used to calculate my age and see when I could realistically play alongside Virat Kohli bhai. I always checked if I could play with him before he retired. He’s been my biggest motivation for me as a cricketer, ” Nitish Reddy on idolising Virat Kohli while growing up.

R Ashwin Presents Debut Cap To Harshit Rana
Meanwhile, R Ashwin too did the same for Harshit Rana and presented him with his debut cap before the start of the match. Although, interestingly, Ashwin, who handed the cap to Rana, misses out from the playing XI as India have decided to go ahead with Washington Sundar as the sole spinner in the team.
It is worth noting that Reddy and Rana are the 315th and 316th player to make Test debut for India.
