Sri Lankan Lions clinched a 13-run victory over Afghanistan Pathans in the 5th match of the Asian Legends T20 2025 at Madan Paliwal Miraj Sports Centre, Rajasthan, on March 12. However, the match was not a standard one with only bat and ball action.
While the match delivered edge-of-the-seat action, umpire Mohammad Rafi became the unexpected star, stealing attention with his theatrical signals. His exaggerated gestures, including a leg-kicking six signal and a comedic run-out ruling, left fans in splits.
Umpire's Hilarious Display Goes Viral!
A video clip released by alt20.official showcases Rafi’s unique style. During AP’s chase, he stretched his leg to the front and waved both arms in Billy Bowden style to flamboyantly signal a six.
Later, he theatrically pointed to the wicket while declaring Asghar Afghan’s run-out, mimicking a dramatic fall.
With Rafi's antics even bolder than Bowden’s classic moves, the match was memorable also because of the intense action.
Asghar Afghan’s Valiant Effort in Vain
Choosing to bat first, SLL's Raveen Sayer top-scored with a brisk 35, while opener Leo Fransisco (31 off 19) and Vikum Sanjaya provided late fireworks. AP’s Farman Ahmed (2/16) and Sahejad Phatan (2/46) kept the middle order in check.
AP skipper Asghar Afghan, who is usually vocal about international cricket, fought hard with a blistering 69 off 42 balls, anchoring the chase after early wickets. His 69-run stand with Ayaan Khan revived hopes, but regular breakthroughs by SLL’s bowlers derailed the innings. AP crumbled under pressure as Vikum Sanjaya and Upul Indrasiri ripped through the lineup.
