English pacer Reece Topley finally made his mark in the T20 World Cup 2024 by claiming his first wicket in the tournament. Despite four previous outings without success, Topley's persistence paid off against the USA team in the 49th match of the ongoing tournament at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Sunday (June 23).

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, England’s decision bore fruit early in the innings thanks to Topley's precision. 

In the first over, he managed to dismiss USA opener Andries Gous, who had managed to score 8 runs off 5 balls, including a hefty six against the left-arm pacer.

Topley's delivery was a masterclass in swing bowling, pitching fuller on the pads and inducing Gous to whip it straight into the hands of Phil Salt stationed at deep square leg. 

Salt made no mistake in securing a simple catch, providing England with the crucial breakthrough they sought.

With USA at 18 for 1 after 3 overs, England tightened their grip on the match, applying pressure on the debutant team. With Steven Taylor and Nitish Kumar at the crease.
