Smriti Mandhana Misses Hattrick Of Centuries; Fails To Equalise Kohli ODI Feat By 10 Runs

Star Indian opener Smriti Mandhana fell 10 runs shy of bagging a legendary feat against South African women on Sunday evening. As the Indian southpaw missed her century by just 10 runs, she failed to create a history of banking hattrick of centuries - which could have landed her in the elite list comprising Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Babar Azam and 10 other batters.

If Smriti Mandhana could have notched 10 more runs in the 3rd ODI fixture versus South Africa, she could have joined New Zealand's Amy Satterthwaite in smashing three consecutive centuries in Women's ODIs.

While batting against the left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, the India opener went for an illustrious sweep shot, but she could not execute it to the fullest as he top-edged towards short fine-leg, who took a fine catch.

Although Mandhana ended the ODI series with 343 runs in the three-match tie, which is the highest by a women batter in any three-match bilateral.

Meanwhile, India have a tight grip on the game, with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues taking the side towards a series whitewash.

Earlier in the day, Deepti Sharma and Anuradha Reddy did the deeds with the ball, as they made sure that the South Africans notched a below-par total at M. Chinnaswamy.
