Shreyanka Patil, the 21-year-old right-arm off-break who won many hearts in the previous edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), made her senior international debut on Wednesday during India’s first T20I of the three-match series against England in Mumbai.

However, she did not do much in her first two overs, giving up 19 runs for no wicket. Then she delivered in her next over, and guess what? Heather Knight, England’s captain and also her teammate of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), with whom she got off the mark.

It was a full delivery by Shreyanka towards the off stump to Knight, who went on the back foot while attempting a shot. However, the English all-rounder failed to get on the line of the delivery, and the ball went on to uproot the off stump.

Shreyanka was thrilled after getting her first success at the international arena, whereas Knight was stunned after missing out on hitting a straight delivery.

Yet, England closed their innings on 197 with the loss of six wickets, with Nat Sciver-Brunt top-scoring with a classy 53-ball 77. For India, Renuka Singh Thakur was the pick of the bowlers, claiming excellent figures of 3/27 off her four overs.

At the time of writing, India are batting on 24/1 after 3.2 overs, with Smriti Mandhana returning to the pavilion after a paltry seven-ball six.
