England opener Zak Crawley's enterprising knock finally came to an end at the stroke of Lunch on the opening day of the 1st Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

But, it wasn't without its fair share of drama as umpire Marais Erasmus did not raise his finger to what looked like a clear caught-behind.

It all happened on the 4th delivery of the 27th over when tall pacer Scott Boland got one to kick off from a good length.

Crawley got into an awkward position, and couldn't help himself but glove it straight to Alex Carey. The Australians went up in unison as the nick was loud and clear.

But, for some reason, Umpire Erasmus thought otherwise, and much to the astonishment from everyone, he decided to not raise his finger.

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins didn't waste any time in sending it upstairs, and the replays confirmed what everybody had seen or heard in real-time.

The delivery kicked off the good length area, hit Crawley on his glove and went straight into keeper Carey's gloves.

The decision was rightly overturned, meaning England went into the Lunch break at 124/3 after deciding to bat first on a docile surface.

Despite his dismissal, Crawley was the pick of the English batsmen as he stamped his authority on the Aussie bowlers with positive batting.

The right-hander drove, cut and pulled with disdain, while also rotating the strike regularly. He was slightly lucky when Australia didn't appeal to a clear caught-behind call off Boland earlier in the innings.

He eventually brought up a fine half-century before falling on the cusp of Lunch.
