[WATCH]- Zak Crawley Survives A Caught Behind Call As Australia Don't Appeal

England opener Zak Crawley survived a lucky break during his enterprising knock on the opening day of the Ashes Test at Edgbaston on Friday.

It all happened during the 15th over of the innings when Crawley, as he had done up until that point, tried to dance down the track to Scott Boland to flick the pacer past mid-wicket.

He, however, failed in his attempt as the ball went past his outside edge to wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

The Australians didn't look excited at all, and hence, didn't even try to appeal. But, as replays confirmed in the end, it was a major opportunity missed by the Aussies as the Snickometer confirmed that the ball had taken a thick outside edge off Crawley's bat.

Australia did manage to get rid of Ollie Pope shortly thanks to Nathan Lyon, who pinned the English No.3 plumb in front from around the wicket to leave the home side two down.

However, Crawley continued to go about his merry way as he cut, pulled with disdain on a very benign and true bathing surface, to get past a well-deserved half-century from just 56 deliveries.

Earlier, it was Crawley only who set the tone for the Ashes as he creamed Pat Cummins for a audacious drive past the cover region for a four.

Since then, Australia managed to pick up two wickets in the form of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, but England have rarely been troubled despite the dismissals, and they will now look to build on the platform via Crawley and Joe Root.

At the time of writing, England had rocketed their way to 115/2 in the 25th over.
