Romario Shepherd delivered an electrifying performance in the 14th match between the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) and MI Emirates at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, on January 21. Playing for MI Emirates, Shepherd showcased his brute power in the final over, smashing 26 runs off the last five balls bowled by Ali Khan.
His innings was a masterclass in big-hitting under pressure. It began with a six over deep mid-wicket, followed by a one-bounce four over point and another four past mid-off. Shepherd didn’t stop there, lofting the next delivery over short fine leg for a flat six and finishing with a massive six over backward point.
His incredible unbeaten knock of 38 runs off just 13 balls propelled MI Emirates to a strong total of 186/6 in 20 overs.
MI Emirates Put A Great Score Against Knight Riders
The match started with Abu Dhabi Knight Riders winning the toss and opting to bowl. MI Emirates’ top order laid a solid foundation, with Nicholas Pooran scoring a quick 49 off 26 balls and Muhammad Waseem contributing 38 off 35 balls. Shepherd’s late fireworks added 75 runs in the last five overs, giving his team a clear edge.
In response, the Knight Riders had a decent start, but Kyle Mayers’ unfortunate run-out and a steady fall of wickets derailed their chase. Romario Shepherd’s double strike in the powerplay further dented their hopes. While Andre Russell and Sunil Narine put up a 50-run partnership to resist, the target was too steep.
The Knight Riders could only manage 158/9, losing by 28 runs. Shepherd and Alzarri Joseph stood out with two wickets each, while Russell top-scored for ADKR with 37* off 23 balls.
