India Women got a dream start to their must-win T20 World Cup encounter against Australia Women, as Renuka Singh Thakur dismissed the reliable Beth Mooney cheaply. Opening the batting for Australia, Mooney managed only two runs before Radha Yadav's sharp catch helped Renuka got her prized scalp.
The incident occurred during the third over of Australia Women's innings after their stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath won the toss and opted to bat first. Although Grace Harris struck a magnificent boundary to get off the mark, her opening partner Beth Mooney struggled to get going against India's rampant bowling attack.
The Indian bowlers' disciplined bowling finally paid off, as Mooney played a risky shot to get dismissed in this all-important clash.
From over the wicket, Renuka bowled a back-of-the-length delivery around the off stump. As she offered slight room, Mooney decided to free her arms and break the shackles.
However, her aerial cut shot couldn't beat Radha Yadav, who took a spectacular catch to send her packing. Radha, an exceptional fielder, held on to a sensational grab earlier in the tournament.
Renuka Singh Jolts Australia With Twin Strikes
After dismissing Beth Mooney, Renuka Singh bowled a lethal nip-backer, trapping pinch-hitter Georgia Wareham plumb in front of the stumps. Her two consecutive strikes shook the defending champions, leaving them tottering at 17 for two in Sharjah.
However, their most explosive batter, Grace Harris, is still out there in the middle. At the time of writing, Australia were in a spot of bother, placed at 34 for two in 5.3 overs, with Harris and Tahlia McGrath batting on 15* and 7*, respectively.
