In a crucial moment of the ongoing second Test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand's innings encountered a significant setback as Rachin Ravindra was dismissed after a fighting knock of 82 runs.

The architect of this crucial breakthrough was none other than Australian captain Pat Cummins, who, on the first ball of the 90th over, adjusted his length and engineered the ball to veer away with the angle.

NZ vs AUS: Rachin Ravindra's wicket started a batting collapse

Rachin Ravindra, lured into a false stroke, could only manage to nick the delivery to the wicketkeeper, marking the end of his commendable innings that spanned 153 balls and was filled with 10 boundaries.

This dismissal was not just a solitary blow but a double whammy for New Zealand, coming on the back of another well-set batsman, Daryl Mitchell, falling for 58 just a few deliveries earlier. The timing of Ravindra's wicket was especially crucial, given that New Zealand, already trailing by 94 runs from the first innings, was looking to build on their partnership to set a formidable target for Australia.

Despite this hiccup, New Zealand managed to rally and post a total of 372, thus setting Australia a challenging target of 279 runs for victory. However, the Australian response was anything but steady. They found themselves in troubled waters early on, with the scoreboard reading a dismal 26/2 after just 9.4 overs.

With their stalwarts Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja back in the pavillion, the onus has now fallen on Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh to steer their ship through stormy seas, needing another 241 runs to anchor safely at the shores of victory.
